BOOK COACH MEDDERS NOW FOR HITTING, PITCHING, CATCHING
Tonya Medders enters her fourth year as the Grizzlies’ assistant softball coach.
With the Grizzlies, Medders’ responsibilities include recruiting, coaching and training, and supporting Head Coach Kat Ihlenburg in the day-to-day operation of the softball program.
Medders manages the team’s pitching staff and helped mentor three-time Association of Independent Institutions Pitcher of the Year Taylor Hansis. The 2019 squad reached the semifinals of the NAIA World Series, marking the program's deepest postseason run. While at GGC, Medders has helped the program reach the World Series in 2019 and 2018 and have won three conference tournament championships.
The 2018 squad set school records for most wins and lowest earned run average. The Grizzlies also made their first appearance at the NAIA World Series.
She has assisted in the Grizzlies posting a pair of 50-win seasons and hosting the NAIA Opening Round.
Medders joined the Grizzlies after spending the 2016 season as the assistant coach with the University of West Georgia, an NCAA Division II program.
Prior to arriving at West Georgia, Medders served as the head coach at Central Arizona for one season. She led the Vaqueras to a NJCAA Region I playoff appearance.
Medders spent three years as the assistant coach at Berry College, an NCAA Division III program located in Rome, Ga.
She spent the 2010 and 2011 seasons as the head coach at Wesleyan College (Ga.).
Medders also has coaching experience as a pitching, infield and hitting instructor.
